They're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.....

It's Day 1: Take 6. As in year 6. In the world of education, that makes me a veteran. I should probably start looking into retirement homes in Palm Springs. Hmmmm...note to self: Call realtor. Then call a loan officer. And perhaps my therapist to talk me out of this ridiculous, hair brained idea. To think I'd be retiring in California over Florida. Let's make it Palm Beach in Florida. Much better. But then I have hurricanes to worry about. And I'm more of a tornado girl. I don't know the proper life saving procedure for hurricanes. Is it drop, cover, and hold? Or stop, drop and roll? Oh Lordy. I'm getting the nervous pee feeling. And back to California I go. But I digress...

Check out my new flock-

What...a shiny bunch of new cherubs. And they're even cuter with that "the sun is burning my retinas but my teacher doesn't care because she wants a first day of school picture" look on every face. This won't be the last time Teacher shows no mercy for the sake of a picture. Soon, the squinty cheese face will be the only life they know. And they will all thank me for instilling a new sense of normalcy into their lives.

And now I will leave you with these words of wisdom from one of my new cherubs. They waste no time in tickling my funny bone.

While explaining the ever crucial classroom procedure of waiting one's turn when Teacher is busy helping another student at her desk...

Miss K: You all have eyes, so you can all see if I am helping a student at my desk. Please be patient and wait quietly in line until it's your turn.
Student: But what if you have a student who is blind? Then they can't see if you're busy with someone else.

Miss K: (while stifling a giggle) That is true, however, that person can probably hear that I'm talking with another student.
Same student: But what if that person is deaf, too? Then what?

Lord have mercy. There's nothing like a good game of "What If" on the first day of school to get your motor running. Tomorrow, we'll discuss what to do in the unlikely event that a meteor shower targets our playground DURING a volcanic eruption ON Field Day, a day in which every single body on campus is outside ON the playground.

Imagine. Just imagine.
