My two favorite veterans..
Grandpa Jeltema and his father, my great-grandfather. Grandpa is a veteran of the Korean War.
And my late Grandpa Kooistra. He was a veteran of World War 2. He passed away in 2008, and was given a military funeral. The playing of Taps has never been so sombering, yet full of rest and peace.
A friend of mine from college served six years in the United States Navy. He had some beautiful words on his Facebook page a few days ago: "All are called to serve as Jesus did. Some are called to give all...just as Jesus did."
During this time of Thanksgiving, as we give thanks for the many things we have, let us not forget to thank those who fought for the things we have.
